Normally I don’t believe in allegations of leftie bias against the mainstream Australian press. But this one looks pretty bad. From an AAP report cited in The Age.

Right-wing think-tank the Australia Institute has proposed a model requiring rich athletes to repay the costs of their publicly-funded training under a HECS-style scheme.

Take a look at The Australia Institute homepage and see if you think it looks right-wing. I’m thinking, no.

The sad part about this is, despite the ammunition it could potentially give to those who see bias wherever they used to see communists, this is really not an indication of bias. As Mick Young once said (I’m paraphrasing here, because I don’t have the exact quote), given a choice between conspriacy and a stuff-up, choose the stuff-up. Well, he might have said it more colourfully than that, but in any case he would have been right.
