I posted the days changes to the philosophy papers blog. As
promised, it looks rather different. Well, it looks a lot like this page, so I
guess that isnt that different. Im
now looking at the pages to see what the changes are, and Im not going to post
anything that isnt a substantive change. For instance, the fact that the title
of Nick Smiths
papers page changed from N. J. J. Smith to Nicholas J. J. Smith is no
longer going to get a link. (On that page!)
The reason the page looks like this one is that
there were things I was trying to do with the formatting that I could do on
this page that I couldnt do on that page. I thought it was a template issue,
so I just copied this template to that page. That didnt help. I think it was
because I bought out the ads on this page, and left that as an ad-supported
blog. So the template changed and I still didnt know how to do what I wanted.
So I quickly learned as much HTML as I needed (not much, it turns out) and
wrote the page as it is. Previously Id been writing updates in Word, getting
Word to tell me the source code, and pasting that into Blogger. This works for
this blog but not for that blog. (And its the ugliest code youve ever seen. Im
taking a Dreamweaver class tomorrow that apparently produces much nicer code,
so that may speed up the page-load times for the blog.) Hopefully writing the
days updates in HTML wont be too much of a nightmare.
